Microbial Functional Genomics (Brachmann)

High-throughput sequencing technology enables us to pursue new approaches in the functional analysis of microorganisms and their environmental interactions. Starting from complete genome sequences and their comparative analysis we draw conclusions on common and specific traits in these systems.

Our main interest lies in the functional analysis of arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi (AMF). We focus on processes regulating the symbiotic interaction with the plant host, as well as on the nuclear organization within the fungal network. These networks can harbor hundreds to thousands of nuclei within one cytoplasm, with surprising genetic homogeneity between them.
